Many thanks to River Cottage for inviting us to design and project manage for them. The Bristol public have to wait another week till it's open, but last night we were amongst the lucky few who have already tried the food, and we can honestly say that River Cottage Canteen Bristol tastes even better than it looks.
The new Fire Island for Beatbox Bars in Cardiff
This venue is so recently opened that we haven't even had a chance to photograph it ourselves yet. Fire Island is the new craft beer bar and pit barbeque restaurant in Cardiff from Beatbox Bars. With 2 iconic bars already, these guys know what makes a fantastic venue, they just needed a little help to pull it all together. The old Victorian council bar was a maze of swirly carpets, chandaliers, heavy valences and dartboards until this happened ...
Just opened in time for Christmas the new Graze Bath for Bath Ales has a distinctly American feel to it. There's space, light, a little leather, a flash of copper and loads and loads of wood. We'll be bringing more images to the site in the near future, but here's a brief selection taken an hour before the opening.
(No animals were harmed in the building of this venue)
Extra Extra Read all about it ! Sorry, that's enough of the corny newspaper jokes. We're pleased to announce the opening of another contemporary coffee shop, this time in Surbiton, Surrey.
The Press Room was commissioned by an entrepreneur with probably the greatest experience of customer service, coming from a management background at John Lewis. The aim was to create a unique venue for Surbiton, different from all those dull coffee shop chains, that would deliver a great tasting cup of coffee and welcoming environment to Surbiton's broad yet discerning demographic. Hopefully this venue will prove to be the launch site that the Press Room team were looking for, since they have plans to roll out to further locations over the coming months. Certainly if trade continues at the rate of the first two weeks, then that could be very soon.
Congratulations to Society Cafe on their opening on 27 March. We hope you love your new home, we've certainly loved making it for you. The 2 week build was pretty hairy at times, but the effort is well worth while. Frustratingly we're going to have to wait a few days before we can share some pictures of the finished look, but we can tell you it's a blend of old and new, lots of lovely textures and an environment that the lucky people of Bath are going to love to relax in. You should be in for a treat because these guys are real coffee lovers, who just want to share their passion, a coffee shop by the people, for the people.
Our client came to us with the idea for a brand that sells only falafel & schnitzel, following our initial meeting and a quick bit of research we realised that it's influence lies in Middle Eastern street food.
It's really exciting to be part of a new brand from the start, and we're proud to have developed branding and an interior that you can see working in any number of locations. This is the first of three due to open shortly.
Simple Simon deliver a new Keralan themed venue for the Bib Gourmand awarded team at Mint and Mustard.
Many congratulations to Dr Ajit and his partners on the opening of the new Mint and Mustard in Taunton. It was a wonderful night with the new restaurant bursting at the seams. The food was fantastic and we're sure it's going to be a huge success. For Simple Simon it was a new challenge to create a Keralan themed restaurant, as the Mint and Mustard team wanted an interior that reflected the unique style of their homeland, rather than just another contemporary indian venue. This is the first restaurant outside Wales for the team that has received a Bib Gourmand as well as being a runner up in the Observer Food Monthly best restaurant annual awards. We'll be asking our photographer to pop down the M5 to Somerset in the near future to get some professional images, but in the meanteam you can scroll down for some snaps of the new interior.
It's Pam Pam. Yes, keep an eye on our website for the new images of PamPam nightclub.
In the next week we'll be adding some photographs of the recently refurbished PamPam nightclub. Once again our friends at Frances Taylor Photography have been busy capturing the detail so that we can share it with you. Watch this spot !
The refreshed Bath University student union has opened at the start of a new term.
Tinc at Westfield Shepherds Bush opened on the 3rd October. This is the second outlet for up-and-coming brand Tinc, both designed and project managed by Simple Simon Design. Judging by the reaction of early passers by on a quite Monday morning, we're sure it will be a huge success. Everyone is thrilled with the design and the build quality is superb thanks to the chaps at Reynolds Colcutt.
Good luck to John and his team, it's going to be a heaving weekend.
Flying Saucers in Shepherds Bush.
Buoyed by the success of the Simple Simon designed launch store, Tinc are opening up a new site. The funky stationery and lifestyle store have asked us to design and project manage their first footstep into London with a unique 360º outlet for Westfield Shepherds Bush. We've included one of Ben's visuals below, but unless you're already an online customer or a regular at the Bath store, then you'll have to wait until the October opening to sample their blend of funky gadgets and gizmos. Our favourite is the electric eraser, to take all the hard work out of those (ever so rare) rubbing-out moments!
Following the success of the Holiday Inn in central Bristol, Simple Simon Design have been appointed to design a new Holiday Inn in Wandsworth.
We're delighted to announce our appointment as interior designers for a new Holiday Inn to be constructed in Wandsworth. Our appointment is almost entirely due to the success of the recently opened central Bristol Holiday Inn, and once again we will be working for Eclipse Hotels. Credit to Ben and the rest of the team for all of their hardwork, and we look forward to bringing you images of the new project as it unfolds.
You can read all about it in Insider News South West
Well we're pleased to say that there's a range of interesting projects on the books for the next few months.
It may not have been that hot, but It's certainly been a busy summer so far for Simple Simon Design, and it looks like continuing into the Autumn and Winter.
Bath University Student Union has asked us to help improve their main bar and nightclub, work needs to be completed in time for the new academic year in September, and is aimed to help improve the success of both venues by breaking up some large open spaces and making them a little more informal and welcoming.
Within Bristol we're refitting Pam Pam nightclub for the same client that we previously delivered Joe Publics. The new venue is due to open in time for the August bank holiday, and will offer a sleek more contemporary experience. Then after you've danced the night away why not grab a healthy bite on your way home? We've also been working on a new all day take-away concept that's going to offer organic snacks made from the best ingredients, there are 3 locations proposed and the first one should be opening in October.
We have 2 Indian dining concepts on the books at the moment, one due to open in late summer for Swindon for an existing client, and a new opening for the award winning Cardiff company Mint and Mustard that will be located in Taunton, and opening in time to grab the Christmas market.
On top of that we're updating the private dining for our loyal client Aqua at the Bath restaurant, and there is a new Tinc concession for Westfield West London, as well as a host of new Enterprise pubs to visit and prepare concepts for.
And there are plenty of other interesting projects in the pipeline too. We'll bring you more details of all of these projects in the near future.
Enterprise Inns, the largest pub company in the UK has chosen Simple Simon Design as one of their selected designers.
Following a trial period of work on a selection of projects in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Bristol, Simple Simon Design have been appointed as designers to Enterprise Inns. The team came to the attention of the Enterprise property department when they visited the Salamander in Bath and were impressed by the refreshed interior. The first project to see fruition will be the old Crawford Hotel in Exeter, where the Simple Simon team have reinvented the unloved sports pub to be a female friendly all-day venue, that will offer a warm welcome and good food to all. Keep an eye on this site, there should be some photos soon (projected opening October 2011).
Holiday Inn Bristol city centre finally opened it's doors last week. One hundred & fifty five bedrooms spread over five floors plus public ares including reception, bar, restaurant & meeting rooms all designed and specified by us! High expectations coupled with a tight budget made this an extreme challenge, however we are all really pleased with the outcome. Many of the items specified are completely bespoke making this project totally unique whilst pushing the boundaries of the Holiday Inn brand.
Tinc - a new and exciting retail design concept from Simple Simon, in Bath's new Southgate centre.
Not long to wait now until the Holiday Inn opens. Here are a few more pictures while we all wait for the contractor to finish. The images below are of the executive rooms.
