Grillstock Smokehouse in Bath is the second restaurant designed by Simple Simon Design.
Inspired by their trip around the United States, owners and friends John and Ben wanted to bring their own version of the barbeque smokehouse scene to the UK. Starting out amongst the festival scene, the team then brought their ideas to Bristol. Their tag line; Meat, Music and Mayhem set the ethos for this design.
Located in The Vaults, a central hub of restaurants and bars in Bath's stations platform, challenges included the unique shape of the space. A long, narrow archway coated in corrugated iron, making best use of what already existed we kept the corrugated iron and added to the interior with a variety of materials, colours and lighting.
Large central tables dictated by the shape of the archways create a welcoming environment for, as they say, Meat, Music and Mayhem, this design element also provided a solution for limited seating and dining space. Carefully considered lighting helps to zone areas and create atmosphere, materials are varied from the copper bar, to neon signage and bespoke jean clad seating creating texture and depth to the space.
